CRS has been present in Afghanistan since 2001, working with communities in the Western and Central provinces to improve rural livelihoods through diverse programs, including agriculture and Agro-enterprise development, women’s empowerment, rural infrastructure, water supply, hygiene promotion, community based education, and watershed development.
CRS carries out development and emergency relief efforts in Afghanistan with a particular emphasis on women’s empowerment and strengthening the resilience of vulnerable households through a strategic framework called integral human development. CRS is developing partnerships with local NGOs for greater sustainability and higher quality programming. CRS has offices in Kabul, Herat, Ghor and Bamyan provinces, CRS employs more than 450 local staff and 10 international staff in Western Region of the country.
