Save the Children has worked in Afghanistan since 1976. We work closely with society on all levels. Almost all our staff is Afghan; we cooperate with children, parents, teachers, village councils, religious leaders, ministries and other national and international NGO. Our way of working close to people and on their own terms has enabled us to deliver lasting change to tens of thousands of children in the country. Save the Children is an independent non-governmental, non-profit, organisation that fights for a world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation. Our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children, and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. We work in 120 countries worldwide.

For almost 30 years, Afghanistan’s children have been affected by conflict. Afghan children face one of the worst chances of survival of anywhere in the world. Parents need support to buy food for their children as they cannot depend on fall harvests to feed their families.

Save the Children also works to save Afghanistan’s hardest-to-reach children by offering them protection, emotional support, healthcare, nutrition and the opportunity to learn.

Working closely with local communities in Afghanistan, Save the Children designs Sponsorship programs to help vulnerable children from early childhood to early adulthood – giving them a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm along the way.

We employ approximately 25,000 people across the globe and work on the ground in over 100 countries to help children affected by crises, or those that need better healthcare, education and child protection. We also campaign and advocate at the highest levels to realize the right of children and to ensure their voices are heard.

We are working towards three breakthroughs in how the world treats children by 2030:

• No child dies from preventable causes before their 5th birthday
• All children learn from a quality basic education and that,
• Violence against children is no longer tolerated
